DAWU PARISH WELCOME THEIR NEW PRIEST

Last May 31, 2009, on the Feast of Pentecost, Dawu Parish offically welcomed Fr. Dominic Hong. The Provincial, Fr. Kusno attended the said celebration participated by almost 300 parishioners.

The Youth Ministry was in-charge of the liturgy and the program, to show to everybody and to the new priest that they are the emerging group in the parish. The youth presented their guitar-playing skills with much satisfaction from the audience.

DAWU PARISH HOLD NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Dawu Parish once again held Novena Masses to the Holy Spirit which begun last May 22 and ended on the eve of Pentecost. The novena Masses, attended everyday by more than a hundred people went from one chapel to another.

Sharers were invited to share their faith-experiences about the theme for the day. Everybody was satisfied listening to the varied faith-experiences of
the sharers. After each Mass, heavy snacks were offered and shared by all.

2009 PROVINCIAL RETREAT

Sixteen confreres from Taiwan, a confrere working in Mainland and two seminarians gathered last May 11-26, 2009 at St. Paul's Patoral Center in Hualien for their yearly retreat. Fr. Guo, a certain priest from Chiayi Diocese facilitated the retreat by presenting his talks with the aid of powerpoint.

The liturgy for this year's retreat was more organized and prepared due to advance planning by each house. Multi-media aids were used to make the liturgy more alive and touching.

At the last day of the retreat, Gao Xiang, a novice who took his novitiate formation in the Philippines, took his Bon Propos in the presence of the confreres. The event gave a flickering hope for the ageing Province.

CM-DC Easter Gathering

Last April 13, 2009 the CMs of the Kaoshiung House organized an Easter Gathering of the CMs and DCs residing in southern Taiwan. They invited confreres from Tainan House and the Daughters of Charity from Liu Kui and Tainan to join in celebrating the spirit of Easter. At 12 noon, all were gathered at the St. Vincent Church to pray, then went to a nearby restaurant for a sumptuous meal sponsored by the Kaoshiung House. Enjoy the video here:

HOLY WEEK 2009

Like every the Catholic parish all over the world, Dawu Parish celebrated the traditonal Holy Week. That week were opportunites for the 9 chapels to be together in celebrating liturgies. Parishioners were all enthusiastic to participate in the most solemn liturgy of the year.

Asia-Pacific Visitors' Meeting in Taiwan

Last March 16 to 21, 2009, the APVC met in Taipei to discuss some matters on inter-provincial collaboration. The Visitors from North and Southern India, China, Indonesia, Philippines and the regional Superior of Vietnam were all present. The Provincial of the Australian Province was not around due to some domestic matters that need o be solved. Serfain Peralta, the APVC secretary was also present on the said meeting.

After 2 days of intense meeting, they have 2-day break by going down to Taidong and Kaoshiung to visit confreres there and see some of their ministries. By Friday, they went back to the meeting table to continue their discussion.

AT LAST, WE GOT A NEW PAIWAN ABORIGINEE PRIEST!

After waiting for almost 20 years, a new priest from Paiwan tribe was ordained last January 1, 2008.

Six Vincentian priest were present in that big ocassion attended by more than 3,000 faithful. The ordination was held in Jinlun where the Vincentian presently administer it. Why the ordination was in Jinlun? Because Fr. Xie Hui Nan is a native of Tuban Village which is part of Jinlun Parish.

DAWU CELEBRATES MIDNIGHT MASS

One with the rest of the world, the remote Parish of Dawu also celebrated the Midnight Mass to commemorate the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The children from Anshuo Chapel played the story of the Nativity.

There were 7 babies baptized this year by the parish priest Fr. Dandy Labitag,CM. The celebration was solemn enough to make the people feel the atmosphere of Christmas.

Seven parish leaders of Dawu Parish went to the Philippines for a pilgrimage tour. Fr. Dandy, a Filipino brought them to many places in Manila, Cebu and Bohol. Just see the pictures and you will know why they are the fortunate few.

2008 CHILDREN'S SUMMER CAMP IN DAWU

Last August 13-15, 2008, the Dawu Parish held their annual Children’s Summer Camp which was facilitated by the Parish Youth Group. There were almost 80 children who participated the event. But what is striking on this 3-day activity was the cooperation, creativity and maturity shown by the Youth Group in handling the difficult tasks of organizing the Summer Camp. FILIPINO CONFRERES AND LAY COLLABORATORS VISIT TAIPEI

Three Filipino confreres namely Frs. Frank Vargas, Vina lacorte and Vhoung Navarro with four Vincentian lay collaborators visited Taipei last July 30 until August 2, 2008. The group came from Sydney where they attended the World Youth Day. Since their plane was China Airline, they confidently thought of visiting Taipei thinking that Fr. Dandy would be their host.

True enough, Fr. Dandy showed them the best of Taipei in just two days. Though they did a lot of walking and riding the MRT, their two-day visit was a good experience of what Taipei is - a modern city yet with a trace of history. See the slide show why.

DAWU PARISH CELEBRATE PENTECOST WITH A BANG!

Dawu Paish celebrate Pentecost with many reasons. First, 21 children and adults received their first communion; second, 10 couples have their church wedding; thirdly, it's Mother's Day,; fourth, visitors from Rome and Philippines visit Dawu.

Novena Masses were held at different chapels in preparation for the Pentecost Day, 9 days before the big celebration. Attendance during the novena were noticeably increased.

FAMVIN ACTIVITIES IN TAIDONG

Last May 9-11, 2008, Jinlun And Dawu were graced by the presence of the visitors from the Vincentian Family, namely, Fr. Manuel Ginete,CM representing the Superior General to the worlwide vincentian family and Betty Pabito, the Coordinator for Asia for AIC.

The Famvin in Taidong prepared a series of activities to co-incide with their visit. They first visited the General Assembly of the AIC in Taidong last May 9 before proceeding to Jinlun for the General Assembly of the Famvin. Fr. Ginete talked about the Famvin in the world. dinner was served after and followed immediately by the Eucharist in honor of the 3 new blesseds of the Famvin.

On May 10,the coordinators of the Famvin had their lunch at an aborigine resto. They hahve a good lunch and warm conversations.

On May 11, Dawu Parish held their Pentecost and graced by the presence of the two visitors.

FR. GERARD DU VISITS DAWU AND JINLUN




Fr. Gerard Du, the Assistant Superior General had his canonical visitation in Taiwan from April 12 to 22. As part of his itinerary, he visited the places of Jinlun and Dawu.


On April 21(Monday), the parish leaders of Jinlun and Dawu have a meal together with Fr. Gerard. On the next day, he went to Dawu parish to visit some chapels. Before flying back to Taipei, he passed by first to the house of the D.C. sisters.


YOUTH MINISTRY IN DAWU

Last April April 18-20, some youth who willingly expressed to be part of the Youth Ministry came togethe to establish their group. Sr. Huang and Rev. Xie led the group for the recollection and initial organization. Here are the pictures:

2008 EASTER SPORTS FEST IN DAWU

The Dawu Parish celebrated the easter vigil with a very solemn liturgy. Fr. Richard Preuss, the assistant parish priest presided the liturgy. The blessing of new fire was quite new for the parishioners since there is a traditional dance and singing to prepare everybody's spirit.
Powerpoint was used to help the faithful reflect more on the readings.
On easter sunday, the whole parish gathered again for the Sports Fest in Senyong. The parishoners were so active that the whole activities finished almost 5pm. See the highlights below.
